How to Add a Leg to an Existing Trip

Last updated: April 17, 2026

To help streamline your dispatching workflow and eliminate duplicate data entry, Bambi allows you to add a new leg directly to an existing passenger reservation. Whether you need to schedule a return ride, set up a will-call pickup, or add a custom stop, you can manage it all from the original trip's edit screen.

Important Rules and Limitations

Before adding a leg to an existing trip, please ensure your request meets the following routing requirements:

  • One Leg Limit: You can only add one new leg to an existing trip at a time.

  • Current or Future Trips Only: The original trip you are adding to must be scheduled for the present or the future. You cannot add a leg to a trip that has already occurred in the past.

  • Wait and Return Restrictions: If you are setting up a "Wait and Return" trip, the original trip must be unassigned prior to adding the return leg.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Locate the Original Trip

  1. Navigate to your Dispatch Calendar.

  2. Find the current or future trip you wish to modify.

  3. Click on the trip to open the options menu, then select Edit Trip.

Step 2: Select Your Leg Type Scroll to the bottom of the Edit Trip screen. You will see several toggle options to add a new leg. Select the one that fits your passenger's needs:

  • Make a Round Trip: Automatically generates a return trip from the original drop-off location back to the original pick-up location.

  • Make it a Will Call Return: Creates an unscheduled return trip that will sit in your unassigned queue until the passenger calls to activate it.

  • Additional Leg: Allows you to input custom pick-up and drop-off addresses for a multi-stop journey.

  • Wait and Return: Keeps the driver at the destination with the passenger. (Note: The original trip must be unassigned to select this option).

Step 3: Confirm Times and Details

  1. Once you select your trip type, input the Pickup Time for the new leg.

  2. Verify that the addresses and passenger details have carried over correctly.

Step 4: Save and Assign

  1. Click Save in the bottom right corner.

  2. The newly created leg will instantly appear on your dispatch board (typically in your unassigned trips list, depending on the trip type).

  3. Drag and drop the new leg to assign it to a driver's schedule.
