How to Use Passenger Driver Preferences

Last updated: June 1, 2026

Driver preferences let you control which drivers are assigned to a specific passenger's trips. Common use cases include gender-match requests, language preferences, mobility-assistance certifications, or drivers a passenger has asked not to ride with. Preferences live on the passenger profile and are applied automatically during both manual and auto-dispatch.

Preferences come in two types:

  • Soft preferences — Bambi will try to honor them, but other constraints like availability, vehicle type, or route efficiency can override them.

  • Hard rules — Bambi must follow them. A trip will never be assigned to a driver who violates a hard rule.

To add or edit a driver preference:

  1. Open the Passenger profile for the passenger you want to update.

  2. Scroll down to the Driver Rules section.

  3. Click Add a Driver Rule to create a new rule, or click the pencil icon next to an existing rule to edit it.

  4. Select the Driver from the dropdown (the driver to pair with or avoid).

  5. Choose Soft preference or Hard rule.

  6. Add any relevant notes in the Notes field (e.g., gender, language, certification required).

  7. Click Save.

How preferences affect dispatch:

  • Soft preferences give a driver a higher score in Bambi's matching algorithm. Other factors like location and vehicle load can still outweigh the preference.

  • Hard rules filter drivers out entirely. If no driver satisfies all hard rules for a trip, the trip will not auto-assign and the dispatcher will be notified to resolve the conflict.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add multiple driver rules to one passenger?

Yes. Add as many rules as needed. All of them are applied simultaneously when assigning trips.

Are driver rules visible to drivers in the app?

No. Drivers do not see the rules — they simply receive trips that already match their profile.

Can I change a soft preference to a hard rule later?

Yes. Click the rule's pencil icon, change the selection, and save.
